The importance of play cannot be underestimated because playing is essential to a child's growth. Studies show that playing is basically learning in the early years. Children learn an ample amount of lessons through play.
Let me take you through the benefits of play.
9 Benefits of play:
Stimulate early brain development: playing provides crucial life experiences which in turn promotes the brain development. Providing sensory play environment helps lay the brain's foundation.
Improve intelligence : A study found that giving toys to kids frequently increases their IQ by age 3.
Sparks creativity : Be it free play or pretend play, both encourages the child to be creative which is closely tied to divergent thinking.
Improve communication : Play specifically pretend play can greatly improve and influence the communication skills in kids.
Emotion regulation : Self regulation is very important for social success specially when a child starts school for eg. a well regulated child knows how to wait for his turn or not to snatch from others.
Social competence : Playing helps the child to develop social skills like negotiation, cooperation, follow rules and to get along with their friends.
Better health : Playing helps in mental health and as well as physical health if the play requires motor skills and strength.
Problem solving skills : Play involving real life scenarios can help develop problem solving skill in a child.
Better relationships: Parents who play with their kids form a stronger bond and provide positive life experiences.
To sum up I would like to say that parents/ caregivers please encourage your child to play rather than making them screen addicts. Put your mobiles / tv remote/ laptop down and play with them , relive your childhood and create wonderful memories.
