Books have so many genres and reading can bring about so many wonderful changes in one's perspective towards life!
I started reading to my son when he was hardly a couple of months old. I'm so proud to see how he has grown into an amazing little bibliophile. He is just a few months over three and his little library keeps growing. These amazing books teach him love , compassion , kindness and many more.
If you want know the amazing benefits of reading to your child then please keep reading.
Benefits of reading to your child:
Sparks imagination: Reading story books give wings to a child's imagination and ignites his/her curiosity They learn to make stories of their own. My son is a wonder boy one day and the next day he becomes an action hero. Well , the list goes on!
Increased vocabulary: Reading story books increases the child's vocabulary. Kids learn new words from the story and learn how to implement them. It helps with learning the sounds as well as early literacy skills.
Increased focus and concentration.: Kids who have the habit of reading listen more carefully. They can sit and focus more on what is being told in class.
Develop love for reading : A study shows that kids who develop a habit of reading, do well in school. The child learns early that ready is fun and not a chore. So later you will not be stressed of getting the child to read as it will already become a habit by then.
Relief anxiety : If a child is going through a phase where the idea of a new experience is making him/her nervous, then one can read a book about a similar encounter. This can help the kid cope up. For eg. If the child is nervous about the first day at school, one can read a book about it.
Bonding time: This is such an amazing bonding ritual. The parent can spend intimate bonding time just reading some amazing books. The child feels secure and feels that he/she can confide on the parents hence Increases communication.
Here is a list of a few pointers to remember while reading to your kids:
Read slowly so that your kid understands what you are reading
If the kids is slightly older ,you can let the kid decide which book to read.
If the kid wants to read the same book everyday, read it out for them every single day for weeks or even months without losing your temper.
Make it a happy ritual not a compulsion.
